The first batch of matches featuring senior K League internationals got underway on Thursday or in the early hours of Friday in Korea. Jurgen Klinsmann is still looking for a first win as manager of Korea having seen his side draw 0-0 with Wales but there were some positive results for some European K League stars.
Wales 0-0 South Korea, Friday 8th September
At the Cardiff City Stadium, South Korea took on Wales for what was a first-ever meeting between the two nations. Lee Ki-je, Jung Seung-hyun, and Seol Young-woo started the match and helped Korea keep a cleansheet. Lee Soon-min came off the bench in the second to make his debut for Korea, replacing former Daejeon, Asan, and FC Seoul midfielder Hwang In-beom. Former Gangwon winger Yang Hyun-jun was also handed his debut, coming on seven minutes from time to replace former Jeonbuk midfielder Lee Jae-sung. Lee Dong-gyeong was the sixth K League player to appear in the match, coming off the bench in the 84th minute.
Korea had most of the possession, 61% to 39% in fact but managed just one shot on target from four total attempts. Passing accuracy was better than that of Wales, though, with 89% to 96%. The Taeguk Warriors are back in action this Wednesday, taking on Saudi Arabia at St James' Park in Newcastle.
Lithuania 2-2 Montenegro, Friday 8th September
Incheon United striker Stefan Mugoša started up top for Montenegro on Thursday as the Brave Falcons earned a 2-2 draw away to Lithuania in a UEFA Euro Group G qualifier. Mugoša played the first 45 minutes before being replaced at half time by Driton Camaj. Montenegro thought they had done enough to earn all three points with goals from Nikola Krstović and Stefan Savić putting the visitors 2-1 up heading into the last few minutes. However, a 94th-minute leveller from Fedor Černych meant the spoils were shared.
