The September international break is now over and saw South Korea's full national team pick up a first under new boss Jurgen Klinsmann and the U23 side qualify for the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup.
Saudi Arabia 0-1 South Korea, Tuesday 12th September - Friendly
South Korea are now officially up and running under Jurgen Klinsmann with the Taeguk Warriors beating Saudi Arabia in a friendly. At St James' Park in Newcastle, England, three K League players were named in the starting XI - Suwon Bluewings left back Lee Ki-je and Ulsan Hyundai defensive pair Jung Seung-hyun and Seol Young-woo. Two more K Leaguers came off the bench, Moon Seon-min replaced Cho Gue-sung in the 69th minute and Lee Soon-min came on for Hwang In-beom in second-half stoppage time. Former Jeonbuk striker Cho Gue-sung got the game's only goal on 32 minutes.
Next up for South Korea is two friendlies in October, first with Tunisia at Seoul World Cup Stadium on October 13th and Vietnam at Suwon World Cup Stadium on October 17th.
South Korea U23 3-0 Myanmar U23, Tuesday 12th September - AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifier
A 3-0 win over Myanmar U23 sends South Korea's U23s to the AFC U23 Asian Cup. At Changwon Football Center, the home of Gyeongnam FC, goals from FC Seoul's Paik Sang-hoon, Daejeon Hana Citizen's Jeon Byeong-kwan, and Jeonbuk's Oh Jae-hyeok earned Korea a 3-0 win.
Shin Song-hoon (Gimcheon), Lee Tae-seok (FC Seoul), Cho Wi-je (Busan), Seo Myeong-gwan (Bucheon), Park Chang-woo (Jeonbuk), Paik Sang-hoon (FC Seoul), Eom Ji-sung (Gwangju), and Kim Sin-jin (FC Seoul) all started the match.
Pohang's Hong Sang-yun replaced Kim Sin-jin on 78 minutes, Jeon Byeong-kwan replaced Lee Hyeon-joo in the 81st, and Heo Yool came on in the 88th minute to replace Jeong Sang-bin to make it three more K League players.
The AFC U23 Asian Cup begins next April in Qatar.
Azerbaijan 2-1 Jordan, Tuesday 12th September - Friendly
Wrapping up the K League International series for September, Daejeon Hana Citizen defender Anton Kryvotsyuk on Tuesday played the full 90 minutes of Azerbaijain's 2-1 home win over Jordan. Anton was deployed at left centre back in a 4-3-3. It helped Azerbaijan earn a first win in five.
Vietnam 2-0 Palestine, Monday 11th September - Friendly
Seoul E-Land striker Nguyen Van Toan earned an assist in Vietnam's 2-0 friendly win over Palestine on Monday, sliding the ball into Phạm Tuan Hai. Van Toan picked the ball up in an advanced position and despite bearing down on goal himself, sent the ball into the path of Tuan Hai who rolled it into an empty net.
