The 2024 Hana Bank K League 2 season has drawn to a close and it will be one to remember following a very tight title race and one of the most closely contested races for the playoffs in recent memory, if not ever. It was one that ended with FC Anyang winning promotion to K League 1 for the first time in the club's history.

1. FC Anyang - Champions, Promoted

FC Anyang finished top of the league to win the 2024 K League 2 championship and seal a historic first promotion to the top flight. It's also the Violets' first piece of silverware and comes after numerous playoff heartbreaks over the years. Anyang led the league for a total of 32 matchdays throughout the 2024 season, first reaching the K League 2 summit in Round 5. Ryu Byeong-hun has become the fifth manager to win the K League 2 championship in their first season in charge. Ryu won the K League 2 Manager of the Year Award, Brazilian forward Matheus Oliveira won the MVP Award as well as the Top Assists Award and was named in the Best XI along with Kiim Da-sol, Kim Dong-jin, Lee Chang-yong, Lee Tae-hee, and Kim Jung-hyun.

2. Chungnam Asan

For Chungnam Asan, ending the season as runners-up in K League 2 represents the club's best-ever finish, their previous best was sixth in 2022. The Owls then qualified for Promotion-Relegation Playoff 1 with Daegu FC and took the Sky Blues to extra time in the second leg. Asan earned a 4-3 win in the first leg but then found themselves 2-0 down in the second before Juninho Rocha converted a late penalty to draw the tie level at 5-5 and send the match into extra time. However, it just wasn't to be for Chungnam Asan. The 2024 season did, though, set new club records for wins, points, and goals. Meanwhile, Juninho Rocha was named in the Best XI.

3. Seoul E-Land

In what was a season that celebrated Seoul E-Land's 10th anniversary, the Leopards finished third to seal a first playoff appearance since 2015. Third represents the club's highest-ever finish. The Leopards had sharp claws, too, finishing the season as the division's top scorers. Seoul E-Land then overcame Jeonnam Dragons in the K League 2 playoffs to earn a spot in Promotion-Relegation Playoff 2 with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of K League 1. However, after a 2-1 home defeat in the first leg, and a ?-? defeat in the second in Jeonju, Seoul E-Land will be in K League 2 again next season, looking to go one better. Seo Jae-min won the K League 2 Young Player of the Year Award, while Osmar Ibáñez was named in the Best XI. Kim Do-kyun was nominated for Manager of the Year, while Park Min-seo, Bruno Silva, and Byun Kyung-jun were nominated for the Best XI.

4. Jeonnam Dragons

Improving on last year's seventh place, Jeonnam Dragons finished fourth in 2024 to earn a spot in the playoffs. The Dragons overcame Busan IPark in a semi-playoff to book a place in the K League 2 Playoff away to Seoul E-Land. The match ended 2-2 but with the home side only needing a draw, it was the Leopards who progressed and not the Dragons. On the bright side, fourth place is Jeonnam's best finish in K League 2 since relegation in 2018 and their first appearance in the K League 2 playoffs since 2021. Jeonnam also got further into the playoffs than they did last time. A total of 57 points earned is also Jeonnam's best tally in K League 2. Valdivia was named in the Best XI for the second year running.

5. Busan IPark

Busan IPark finished fifth in 2024 to earn a spot in the playoffs for the second year in a row. Busan changed manager midway through the season, with former Incheon United boss Jo Sung-hwan taking over from Park Jin-sub when the team were in ninth place, four points behind the playoff spots. But 10 wins in 17 matches and just four defeats under Jo meant a playoff berth for the Royals. In the end, though, the semi-playoff with Jeonnam Dragons is where Busan's season ended, drawing 0-0 at Gwangyang Football Stadium in a game that needed to be one. Lee Han-do, Bruno Lamas, and Lim Min-hyuk were nominated for the Best XI.

6. Suwon Samsung Bluewings

Suwon Samsung Bluewings' first season in K League 2 saw the K League giants miss out on the playoffs on the final day. Suwon finished on the same points as Busan IPark, but scored nine goals fewer and so lost out on fifth place on goals scored. Over the course of the campaign, which saw Byun Sung-hwan take over as manager for his first job at K League level, the Bluewings won 15 out of their 36 games, drew 11, and lost 10. Suwon ended the campaign away from Suwon World Cup Stadium, playing their home games at Yongin Mireu Stadium due to maintenance work being carried out at 'Big Bird.' Fejsal Mulic, Hong Won-jin, and Cho Yun-sung were nominated for the Best XI.

7. Gimpo FC

It wasn't a second consecutive season in the playoffs for Gimpo FC but Ko Jeong-woon and his men came very close. Gimpo were still mathematically able to reach the playoffs heading into the last matches of the season and despite ending the campaign on an unbeaten run of seven missed out by just two points. Gimpo won just two games fewer this year compared to last when the relative new boys finished third. Luis Mina was named in the Best XI for the second year in a row after 15 goals and three assists in 34 appearances. Son Jung-hyun was among the goalkeeper nominees.

8. Bucheon FC 1995

For the first time in three years, the season ended without Bucheon FC 1995 among the playoff teams. Bucheon ended the campaign eighth following 12 wins, 13 draws, and 11 losses. The team's scoring charts were led by Rodrigo Bassani with 11 goals, as well as seven assists. Bassani's performances were enough to be nominated for the K League 2 Best XI.

9. Cheonan City

The 2024 season was one of progress for Cheonan City, ending the campaign in ninth place to better last year's 13th. Cheonan won more than double the number of games they did last year to earn 18 points more. Not only that, but striker Bruno Mota won the K League 2 Top Scorer Award after netting 16 goals and assisting five in 35 appearances and was also named in the Best XI.

10. Chungbuk Cheongju

Chungbuk Cheongju were given the tall task of trying to beat their impressive season last year, which saw them finish just two points off the playoffs. In the end, Chungbuk Cheongju had to make do with finishing 10th following eight wins, 16 draws, and 12 losses. The Lions also changed manager with Choi Yun-kyum departing and Kwon Oh-gyu taking over as caretaker for the last six matches. Meanwhile, Wingback Kim Myung-soon was nominated for the Best XI.

11. Ansan Greeners

Ansan Greeners finished in 11th place, bettering their 12th-place finish from last year, by recording more wins and earning more points. Ansan won nine matches compared to six last year and earned 12 more points. The Green Wolves changed manager mid-season and appointed K League legend Lee Kwan-woo as manager who oversaw a fairly strong end to the season, picking up six points from their last five games and losing just four in 13 matches.

12. Gyeongnam FC

Gyeongnam FC ensured a difficult 2024, finishing second-bottom of the table. However, the Roses may take some comfort in at least not finishing last place, thanks to a seven-point cushion over Seongnam FC from one more victory and five fewer defeats. Georgian forward Bachana Arabuli was nominated for the Best XI after bagging nine goals and registering one assist in 19 starts and 26 appearances overall to end the season as the club's top scorer.

13. Seongnam FC

The 2024 campaign ended up being one of sorrow for the Magpies, finishing the year bottom of the second division. It was a season that saw managerial changes with Jeon Kyung-jun taking over and trying to guide Seongnam away from the foot of the table. One bright spot was Colombian striker Fernando Ruiz's goal return, scoring 12 and assisting two to finish as the club's top scorer and earn a nomination for the Best XI.
