Team of the Round
Ulsan Hyundai (vs. Pohang Steelers, Tues. 21 Sept. 19:00)
The Horangi saw their lead at the top cut to one point at the weekend as they endured another memorable tussle with Daegu FC on Saturday evening. Succumbing to the goal scoring prowess of Brazilian pair Edgar and Cesinha, Ulsan let a one-goal lead slip given to them by Valeri Qazaishvili in the first half. Next up they face another familiar foe in Gyeongsang neighbours and rivals Pohang Steelers, where they have not won since their 4-0 victory at the Steelyard in which Lee Chung-yong bagged a brace.
Likely to be in the starting XI once more, Lee forms part of a team that could potentially face Pohang again in the AFC Champions League semi-finals should they beat Jeonbuk in the quarters. This time around, Hong Myung-bo boasts the talents of Yun Il-lok out wide following his arrival from Montpellier. The former Jeju United and FC Seoul winger is yet to feature for a full 90 minutes, but looks to be settling quickly in the place of the departed Kim In-sung on the left. Having scored last time out, Qazaishvili also ranks first in terms of one-on-one dribbling in K League 1, while at the other end Dave Bulthuis has blocked the most shots in the division.
Player of the Round
Kim Ju-gong (Gwangju FC vs Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Tues, 21st Sept. 16:30)
Netting his third goal in consecutive games against Jeju United on Saturday, Gwangju FC's Kim Ju-gong is enjoying the best goal scoring form of his career for the Yellows this term. Having only started on four occasions last season, Kim is flourishing under the leadership of Kim Ho-young while playing in various positions across the Gwangju frontline. Scoring three goals from just six shots in his last three outings, Kim has shown great efficiency in front of goal of late, something that may be necessary against champions Jeonbuk on Tuesday.
Kim's expected goals has shot up this season while remaining one of the most accurate passing forward players in the division. Also ranking highly for goal conversion and dribbling success, the 25-year-old has taken on the role of an older head in the Gwangju attack alongside a trio of Under-22 players in central striker Heo Yool and wingers Um Won-sang and Eom Ji-sung.
