2022 Hana 1Q K League 1 Round 12 Preview

league 2022.05.12   I   조회수 1090

K League 1 enters Round 12 this weekend with each side now having played one other once. Ulsan Hyundai versus Incheon United on Saturday afternoon and FC Seoul hosting Pohang Steelers on Sunday evening have been selected for overseas broadcasting. The rest can all be viewed on K League TV.

Saturday, May 14th

#GIMvDAE: Gimcheon Sangmu (6th) vs Daegu FC (8th) - 16:30

Gimcheon Sangmu kick-off the weekend action as they host nearby Daegu FC. The military side are looking to bounce back after falling to a 3-1 defeat to Jeju United but know their work will be cut out against a resurgent Daegu FC side who beat Suwon Samsung Bluewings by three goals to nil in the previous outing. Daegu also tasted victory in the reverse of this clash last March with a Go Jae-hyeon effort seeing the Sky Blues pick up a 1-0 win. Having recently returned from injury, Daegu's Cesinha is the one to watch in this clash having both scored and recorded an assist in his side's recent win.

#ULSvINC: Ulsan Hyundai (1st) vs Incheon United (4th) - 19:00

League leaders Ulsan Hyundai bounced back from Children's Day defeat with a resounding 3-1 win over Gangwon FC, having initially gone a goal behind. Leonardo made up for an early penalty miss with two goals either side of an Eom Won-sung effort. The Brazilian striker now has five goals in his nine appearances since joining at the start of the year.

Incheon United picked up a point over the last two fixtures, first fighting back to claim a draw against Suwon FC before tasting defeat in a hard-fought encounter with Jeonbuk. However, they were able to hold Ulsan Hyundai level earlier in the season thanks to a late equaliser from Stefan Mugoša. The Montenegrin leads the scoring charts this season with eight goals in 11 appearances and looks set to test the Horangi's defence once more this Saturday.

#SSBvSFC: Suwon Samsung Bluewings (11th) vs Seongnam FC (12th) - 19:00

After inflicting Ulsan with their first defeat of the season, Suwon Samsung Bluewings followed up the result with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Daegu FC. It would not have been the return to his former club that recently appointed manager Lee Byung-keun would have wanted but these are still early days into his tenure and he will perhaps hope for a return to winning ways against local rivals Seongnam FC this Saturday.

Seongnam have continued to struggle recently, losing both to Jeju United and Pohang Steelers in the two recent fixtures. They did pick up a point in the reverse of this clash, however, but that match did also see them cede a two-goal lead. Fejsal Mulić remains the Magpies' biggest threat and, while he may only have two goals to his name this season, supporters will be hoping he can return to the form that saw him find the back of the net on 13 occasions last year.

Sunday, May 15th

#SUWvJEJ: Suwon FC (9th) vs. Jeju United (3rd) - 14:20

Suwon FC suffered at the hands of Seoul last Sunday as their trip to the capital ended in a 3-1 defeat and the dismissal of captain Park Joo-ho for two bookable offences. Kim Do-kyun's side have found things difficult of late with one win in their last five outings but the likes of recent signings Lee Seung-woo and Kim Hyun have begun to reap dividends and will perhaps pose the biggest threat to the islanders this Sunday.

Jeju United, meanwhile, will be hoping Joo Min-kyu can build on his hattrick last time out as the striker looks to continue the defence of his Golden Boot title. Nam Ki-il's side have been performing well once more this season and they were also the only team to win both of the last fixtures, underlining the form that they are currently in.

#JEOvGAN: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (5th) vs. Gangwon FC (10th) - 16:30

Jeonbuk Hyudai Motors made it six games unbeaten in the league, and twelve across all competitions, as Gustavo's header saw them secure all three of the points at Incheon last weekend. The season has started slow for the Champions but they have returned to winning ways recently, with the reverse of this fixture arguably being the turning point as they secured a 2-1 victory in Gangneung. Kim Bo-kyung found himself on the scoresheet in that match and has provided an assist in each of the last two outings, making him the player to watch for Gangwon.

Gangwon, meanwhile, got off to a positive start against Ulsan through Kim Dae-won but were ultimately defeated, making it consecutive losses for the side seeing them slip to 10th. Gangwon have not tasted victory in eight matches but the aforementioned Kim Dae-won remains their best hope of changing that, having also scored in the match against Jeonbuk at the start of April.

#SEOvPOH: FC Seoul (7th) vs. Pohang Steelers (2nd) -19:00

FC Seoul followed up their dramatic draw against Jeonbuk in Round 9 with a 3-1 victory over Suwon FC in Round 10, making it five games unbeaten in the league and propelling them to the cusp of the top half. The last two matches have also seen highly-anticipated signing Hwang In-beom make his Seoul debut, albeit from the bench on both occasions, and the supporters will be hoping to see more of what the Korean National Team and former Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder can bring to the club this weekend.

Despite departures of key personnel such as Kang Sang-woo ahead of the season, Pohang Steelers continue to impress and have found themselves up in second place behind East Coast Derby rivals Ulsan Hyundai. A 1-0 win against Seongnam FC courtesy of a Go Young-joon goal was enough to secure the win last time out. Like their opponents this weekend, Pohang are also unbeaten in five, with both teams starting their bouts of form with the reverse of this fixture in early April, where both sides played out a 1-1 draw.
