2022 Hana 1Q K League 2 Round 42 Preview

league 2022.09.29   I   조회수 697

In the 2022 Hana 1Q K League 2 Round 42 this weekend there's the final Line 4 Derby of the season where FC Anyang will be looking to bounce back from a run of four matches without victory against Gyeonggi Province neighbours Ansan Greeners, an in-form Daejeon Hana Citizen host champions-elect Gwangju FC, and Seoul E-Land and Hwang Tae-hyeon are in action against Bucheon FC 1995.

Match of the Round

FC Anyang (3rd) vs Ansan Greeners (9th), Sat. 1st October - 18:30

It's the final Line 4 Derby of the season and one which FC Anyang simply must win if they are to finish second in K League 2. Following a run of four matches without a win Anyang have since slipped to third in the table and are at risk of having to go through the K League 2 playoffs before facing a K League 1 team in the promotion-relegation playoff. But, manager Lee Woo-hyung will have Maxwell Acosty back and ready to start after the league's top assist maker returned from a short injury layoff. Jonathan Moya and Andrigo, too, could be available.

Anyang come up against an Ansan Greeners side that is also on a run of four without a win. But with local bragging rights at stake, both sides will see the match as one that could help them end the season strongly. Ansan could move up to eighth with a win while Anyang could return to second with Daejeon not due to play until the following day.

Anyang have won two of the three Line 4 Derby matches this season. There have been 22 meetings in total with Anyang winning 10, Ansan winning seven and five draws. The Violets have the edge in goals scored, too, with 32 to Ansan's 34.

There have been some high-scoring affairs over the last few seasons. The most recent meeting ended in a 4-1 win for Anyang but the two sides played out a five-goal thriller in May last year which Ansan won. In 2019 as both teams looked to reach the playoffs, Anyang scored two goals in the last seven minutes to earn a 3-2 win.

Team of the Round

Daejeon Hana Citizen (vs. Gwangju FC, Sun. 2nd October - 13:30)

Unbeaten in five with three wins and now in the driving seat for second place, it's been quite the turnaround for Daejeon Hana Citizen. After defeats to Gyeongnam FC, FC Anyang, and Seoul E-Land in August, things had started to look a bit bleak for the Purples. But seven points from nine available from three away matches in a row and wins over Anyang and Gyeongnam in the final round robin have contributed to a complete change in atmosphere at Purple Arena. The Purples are the league's in-form team as no other side in the division has managed to go five unbeaten heading into Round 42. Perfect timing with the playoffs just around the corner.  Up next for Daejeon is the visit of champions-elect Gwangju FC. Daejeon are yet to beat Gwangju this season but if they do, the Purples might overtake their South Jeolla counterparts in the league's goal-scoring charts.

Player of the Round

Hwang Tae-hyeon, Seoul E-Land (vs. Bucheon FC 1995, Sat. 1st October - 16:00)

Wing-back Hwang Tae-hyeon has scored two goals this season, both came in September and in important wins for Seoul E-Land. The first came in a 3-0 win over Chungnam Asan in Round 39, making it 2-0. The second came last weekend as the Leopards picked up an impressive victory over FC Anyang. Hwang's stunning strike in the seventh minute got Seoul up and running and may also be a late contender for goal of the season. Hwang is an effective wing-back and has the best crossing accuracy in K League 2 with nearly 56% of all balls into the box finding their intended target. Up next for Hwang and the Leopards is the visit of Bucheon FC 1995. A win against the Reds would keep Seoul in contention for a place in the playoffs.

Elsewhere in K League 2 Round 42

Gimpo FC at home to Chungnam Asan will get Round 42 underway. Gimpo are unbeaten in two now and picked up a win last time out over playoff-chasing Bucheon FC 1995. Their opponents this Saturday, the Owls, are also playoff contenders and will be looking to bounce back from a run of four matches without a win.

Fighting for a playoff place Gyeongnam FC take on Jeonnam Dragons this Sunday. Gyeongnam are two points clear of their nearest rivals for fifth Chungnam Asan but have played one game more, meaning there's very little margin for error. Jeonnam, meanwhile, suffered to defeat to Busan IPark last time out, putting them at risk of finishing bottom of the league.
