The Year of the Tiger: Ulsan Hyundai Crowned K League 1 Champions

There is a new name on the K League 1 trophy as Ulsan Hyundai halted five years of Jeonbuk dominance to lift their first K League trophy since 2005. Manager Hong Myung-bo has kept his side in pole position for almost the entire campaign but it took until the penultimate round with a win away over Gangwon FC to finally put an end to the Horangi's wait for the trophy.

Ulsan claimed the title with a three point margin, winning 22, drawing ten and losing six times. The Horangi also finished as top scorers in the division with 57 goals, and conceding the fewest having only allowed 33. Performances from the likes of Leonardo, Um Won-sang and notably K League 1 MVP Lee Chung-yong, along with many others, ensured that the K League trophy would reside in a new home ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Gwangju FC Claim K League 2's Top Spot to Earn Promotion Back to the First Tier

Having suffered relegation from the top flight at the end of the 2021 campaign, Gwangju FC have made a swift return by cantering towards the K League 2 title and the subsequent promotion that comes with it. Led by manager Lee Jung-hyo, Gwangju took an early lead in the title race this season and rarely looked like relinquishing their grip. Gwangju finished the season with 86 points, 12 more than their nearest competitor. They won 25, drew 11 and lost just four, scoring 68 goals and conceding the fewest with 32.

Daejeon Hana Citizen FC's Seven-Year Stint in the Second Tier Ends in a Return to K League 1

After play-off heartbreak for the last two seasons, Daejeon Hana Citizen delivered on the third time of asking as they saw off Gimcheon Sangmu in a promotion-relegation playoff over two legs to make their long-awaited return to the top flight after suffering relegation back in 2015. The Purples defeated the army side by an aggregate score of 6-1 after coming from behind in the first leg to earn a 2-1 victory before then condemning their opponents' to relegation on their own turf.

In the other promotion-relegation playoff final, Suwon Samsung Bluewings were able to maintain their K League 1 status in dramatic circumstances thanks to a 120th minute winner against FC Anyang from breakout star Oh Hyeon-gyu in front of a home crowd.  The result means that FC Anyang's encouraging season ended in disappointment as they were unable to claim a top flight berth.

Cesinha's Late Flourish Secures Safety for Daegu and the EA Sports Player of the Month Award for October

With Daegu having already found themselves in Final B after the split, talisman forward Cesinha made sure that they would not be lured into danger with a number of notable performances to seal his team's safety in addition to the EA Sports Player of the Month Award for October. Four goals and an assist for the month helped inspire his team to pick up three wins and two draws in their final five games, avoiding the relegation zone by two points and securing an eighth-place finish.

Um Won-sang Clinches Gatorade G Moment Award with his Title-winning Goal

Only requiring a point from their last two matches to seal their first K League 1 title since 2005, Ulsan Hyundai fans could be excused for feeling somewhat anxious when they found themselves a goal down away to Gangwon FC midway through the second half. However, with just fifteen minutes left on the clock, Martin Adam headed on a long ball into the penalty box into the path of Um Won-sang who unleashed a scathing volley to level the clash and help propel Ulsan to the trophy. Um Won-sang was awarded the trophy after claiming 73% of the votes, defeating Jeju United's Yoon Bit-garam.

Daegu FC's Late Resurgence Sees Choi Won-kwon Seal Paradise City Manager of the Month

Daegu's October performance saw manager Choi Won-kwon awarded the Paradise City Manager of the Month award. Three wins and two draws in his side's final five games proved enough for the Sky Blues to secure safety after finding themselves within the perilous relegation playoff positions the month prior.
