Former Jeonnam Dragons and Ulsan Hyundai forward Mislav Oršić is a 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinalist. Oršić on Friday helped his native Croatia knock pre-tournament favourites Brazil out of the competition.

Mislav Oršić came off the bench in extra time and within minutes had teed up Bruno Petković for Croatia's equaliser three minutes from time after Neymar had given Brazil a 105th-minute lead.

His contributions didn't end there, either as he converted what turned out to be the winning penalty for Croatia in the subsequent shootout.

Croatia were ahead 3-2 in the shootout as Oršić stepped up to take the fourth.

He duly converted and after Marquinhos hit the post, Croatia were through to their second World Cup semifinal in a row.

For former K Leaguer Oršić, currently with Dinamo Zagreb the HNL league leaders, has made four appearances so far during the 2022 World Cup, recording two assists.

His first came in the 4-1 group stage win over Canada, teeing up Lovro Majer for the fourth and put the gloss on a fine display.

The appearance against Brazil was his 25th for Croatia.

Refined in K League

After starting his career in Croatia with Inter Zaprešić in 2009 and spells in Italy and Slovakia with Spezia and Celje respectively, Mislav Oršić moved to K League with Jeonnam Dragons.

The winger, who was known in K League as "Oršja", spent around 18 months with Jeonnam Dragons in 2015 and 2016, scoring 14 goals and providing 10 assists in 49 appearances.

After a short stay in China with Changchun Yatai, Oršić returned to K League in 2017 with Ulsan Hyundai winning the FA Cup that year.

At Ulsan, he made one goal contribution every 2.2 matches with 21 goals and 12 assists in 70 appearances for the Horangi.

Oršić's impressive displays then earned the winger a move to Dinamo Zagreb where he was since won four HNL titles, one Croatian Cup and then a call-up to the national team in 2019.

Up next for Mislav Oršić and Croatia is Argentina in the semifinal at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday local time or 4 AM Wednesday in South Korea.
