2023 Hana 1Q K League 2 Round 3 Preview

league 2023.03.09   I   조회수 536

In Round 2 of the 2023 Hana 1Q K League 2 this weekend there's the first Line 4 Derby of the year with Ansan Greeners hosting FC Anyang, free-scoring Gyeongnam FC are away to a Gimpo FC side that scored four last time out, and Seoul E-Land's Bruno Oliveira is on the hunt for three goals from three matches when the Leopards take on Jeonnam Dragons. All that and more in this guide to what's happening in K League 2 this weekend.

Match of the Round

Ansan Greeners vs FC Anyang, Sun. 12th March - 13:30

The first Line 4 Derby of the year sees the two Gyeonggi Province rivals Ansan Greeners and FC Anyang meet this Sunday with both teams looking for their second wins of the season. Hosts Ansan Greeners won last time out - a 1-0 victory at home to Chungnam Asan - and so with the home crowd behind them again this weekend, will be aiming to put a run of results together. FC Anyang, meanwhile, drew away to Seoul E-Land last time out to remain unbeaten with four points from six available.

Anyang are fourth in the division for shots at 27 while Ansan are 12th with 15. In terms of accuracy, the Violets are third with nine attempts finding the target but Ansan are joint 12th with just four. Ansan, though, have been involved in the most aerial duels in the division so far this term and Anyang are second meaning Saturday's contest could be won or lost in the air, particularly with Anyang looking to put crosses into the box. The Violets are second for crosses with 13 while Ansan are fifth with 10.

In terms of players to watch, Anyang's Brazilian attacking midfielder Andrigo is joint-second for key passes made with five while Ansan's Kim Beom-soo is joint-eighth with three. Anyang's Kim Dong-jin is first for passes made to the final third but Ansan goalkeeper Lee Seung-bin is second for catches made.

There have been 23 previous Line 4 Derbies with Anyang winning 11 and Ansan winning seven and five draws. In Ansan, the record is five Greeners wins and five Anyang wins from 12 meetings. Watch the action on TV.KLeague.com.

Team of the Round

Gyeongnam FC (vs. Gimpo FC, Sat. 11th March - 16:00)

Two wins from two has Gyeongnam FC top of the K League 2 table. Whereas the first victory of 2023 came via the narrowest of scorelines, 1-0, the second was far from narrow - putting five past Jeonnam Dragons away from home. No team has scored more goals than Gyeongnam in K League this season with six. It's no wonder why as the Roses are second in the division for shots dispatched with 32, and top for shots on target at 16 - eight per match on average.

Gyeongnam's new number seven, Won Ki-jong, is on three goals for the season so far and Guilherme Castro scored one and assisted one in the win over Jeonnam to earn the K League player of the match award. Up next for Gyeongnam is Gimpo FC away this Saturday, a team that put four past Cheonan City last time out in what was their first outing of the campaign. Gyeongnam won three of the four meetings between the two sides last term and even put six past their Gyeonggi Province counterparts last June in a 6-1 win. Watch the match on TV.KLeague.com.

Player of the Round

Bruno Oliveira, Seoul E-Land (vs. Jeonnam Dragons)

Seoul E-Land have scored three goals so far this season and two of them have been from winter recruit Bruno Oliveira. The Brazilian came off the bench in the Leopards' first game of the season at home to Chungbuk Cheongju and helped spark something of a comeback by finding the back of the net in the 71st. The match ended in defeat but Bruno's impact was clear. His second goal of the campaign helped his team earn their first point of 2023, finding an equaliser away to FC Anyang eight minutes after falling behind. The Brazilian started the game against Anyang and, having scored for the second match running, will be hoping he keeps his place in the starting lineup when Seoul E-Land take on Jeonnam Dragons this Saturday. Elsewhere in K League 2 Round 3

Seongnam FC will be looking to bounce back from the defeat to Bucheon last time out when they face Chungnam Asan this Sunday. Asan are without a win so far this term, though, and so will be looking to get off the mark and add to the one goal they've scored. It will be the first-ever K League meeting between the two sides having previously only met in the FA Cup. Both of the FA Cup encounters ended in 1-0 Seongnam wins, the first in 2020 and the second in 2022.

There'll also be a first-ever K League meeting between Chungbuk Cheongju and Busan IPark. The two teams have met before but in the FA Cup and played out a nine-goal thriller almost a year to the day with Busan emerging as winners 6-3.

Meanwhile, continuing with the theme of first-ever K League meetings, another of the division's newcomers, Cheonan City, are at home to Bucheon FC 1995. There is one previous meeting that dates all the way back to 20th March 2010 when Cheonan ran out 2-1 winners in the FA Cup.
