In the first 2023 edition of K League Internationals, South Korea draw 2-2 with Colombia in what is Jurgen Klinsmann's first match in charge, Martin Ádám scores his first goal for Hungary, while Asnawi Mangkualam plays the full 90 minutes for Indonesia in a 3-1 friendly win over Burundi.

South Korea

Four K League players started for South Korea in the 2-2 friendly with Colombia in Ulsan on Friday night. Ulsan Hyundai duo Kim Tae-hwan and Kim Young-gwon, as well as Jeonbuk's Kim Jin-su made up three-quarters of the back four while Cho Gue-sung started up front. Unfortunately for Kim Jin-su, injury forced him off with little over 20 minutes played and Suwon Bluewings' Lee Ki-jae came on his place. Kim has since withdrawn from the squad and Ulsan's Seol Young-woo has been called up as a replacement.

Korea found themselves 2-0 up in the first half thanks to two goals from Son Heung-min. The first saw Son pick up a loose ball before firing into the net from distance with just 10 minutes on the clock, while the second was from a free kick on the stroke of half time. Son won the foul himself after Suwon's Lee Ki-je had found him centrally.

The second half saw Na Sang-ho come on to replace Lee Jae-sung to make it a total of six involvements from K League players. Up next is Uruguay on Tuesday in Seoul.

South Korea U22

In the Doha Cup on Saturday, a friendly tournament held in Qatar, South Korea's U22 team beat Iraq U22 1-0 to make it two wins from two thanks to an 89th-minute goal from Pohang Steelers attacking midfielder Goh Young-jun. Incheon United's Hong Si-woo played a lovely ball through to Goh from just outside the box, Goh then prodded the ball home over the 'keeper first time.

It was a much-changed team from the first match, a 3-0 win over Omsan on Tuesday, with Kim Jeong-hoon (Jeonbuk), Cho Hyun-taek and Jang Si-young (Ulsan), Park Chang-hwan (Seoul E-Land), Kwon Hyeok-gyu (Busan), Jung Han-min (Seongnam) and Heo Yool (Gwangju) the seven K League players who started for a Hwang Sun-hong-led Korea side.

The first of the two wins in the Doha Cup came on Tuesday when Korea beat Oman U22 3-0. The entire starting XI was made up of K League players with FC Seoul's Baek Jong-bum, Lee Tae-seok, Paik Sang-hoon and Kim Sin-jin, Daejeon Hana Citizen's Byun Jun-soo who skippered the side, Gimpo FC's Cho Seong-gwon, Daegu FC's Lee Jin-yong and Hwang Jae-won, Pohang Steelers' Goh Young-jun, Gwangju FC's Eom Ji-sung, and Bucheon FC 1995's An Jae-jun.

Eom Ji-sung opened the scoring with just eight minutes on the clock thanks to a glancing header at the near post, Lee Tae-seok with the assist from the corner. The second game on 33 minutes with Kim Sin-jin taking a touch, turning and shooting in the box, Eom Ji-sung with the assist. Korea's third came midway through the second half, An Jae-jun firing in at the near post from a clever cutback.

Hungary for more

Ulsan Hyundai striker Martin Ádám scored his first goal for Hungary on Thursday local time as the Magyars picked up a 1-0 friendly win over Estonia. Wearing the number nine shirt, Martin Ádám started the match and struck in the 41st minute with a stunning header. Up next is Bulgaria in a UEFA Euro qualifier on Monday.

Indonesia

Jeonnam Dragons right wingback Asnawi Mangkualam on Saturday in Bekasi played the full 90 minutes as Indonesia overcame Burundi 3-1 in a friendly. Donning his customary number 14 shirt, the 23-year-old was deployed on the right-hand-side of a midfield four with three centre backs behind him.

Loss in Linz

Daejeon Hana Citizen defender Anton Kryvotsyuk came off the bench in Azerbaijan's 4-1 loss to Austria in Linz in what was Milli komanda's first UEFA Euro qualifier of the new campaign. Anton came on at half time in place of Bəxtiyar Həsənalızadə with the score already at 2-0. Manchester United's Marcel Sabitzer and Freiburg's Michael Gregoritsch scored the goals before Sabitzer added his second five minutes after the break to make it 3-0. Azerbaijan pulled one back to make it 3-1 through Emin Mahmudov before Hoffenheim's Christoph Baumgartner made it 4-1. Up next for Azerbaijan and Anton is Sweden in Stockholm on Monday local time.
