Preview: Incheon United Vs. Gangwon FC

Gangwon FC will be looking to put an end to their recent slump when they face Incheon United on Sunday. However, after consecutive impressive performances, the home side will feel confident that they can leapfrog their opponents by securing all three points.

Recent Form

Incheon United are in the midst of a mini-revival, recovering from three consecutive defeats - including a shock home loss in the FA Cup at the hands of Anyang - with four points in their last two games. Against Ulsan they were defensively sound and showed signs of their attacking potential with an impressive 3-1 away victory against Seongnam a few days prior. A balance of the two approaches is likely to be on the cards here as the Mariners look to avenge their 2-0 defeat at the hands of their opponents not long ago.

Gangwon FC, though, are hoping that their recent inconsistencies won't become the norm. They looked strong against Jeonbuk, but moments of haphazardness led to them failing to hold on against the league leaders. Their draw made it just one league win in five for the Bears, leaving manager Kim Byung-soo once again searching for a solution that will see his side get back to their best.

Team News

Incheon generally come into the game with a clean-bill of health, missing Kim Yeon-soo but having an otherwise healthy squad to choose from. With the team by and large in good spirits, a lineup similar to the one which saw the Mariners face Ulsan would be a safe bet.

Gangwon on the other hand will be hoping that Lee Bum-soo, who has missed the last two games to injury, can make his way back into the net, as they too enjoy a generally injury-free group of players. Rustamjon Ashurmatov may make his way back into the defence, but given the overall efficiency of last week's performance, wholesale changes are unlikely.

Head-to-Head

Despite a controversial red card on the stroke of half-time, Gangwon coasted to a 2-0 home victory against Incheon back at the end of March. It means that the Bears have won seven out of their last ten against the Mariners, scoring an impressive 27 goals in the process. However, only two of those triumphs have come away from home, meaning they will have to be on their toes to ensure they can extend their strong run.

What to Watch

Can Incheon go three unbeaten?

After a couple of eye-catching performances, Incheon will be hoping to go three unbeaten for the first time this season, and pull away from the rear of the table. If they can muster another defensively sound display, there's no reason why their wishes won't be fulfilled.

Can Gangwon find consistency?

Gangwon are proving a frustrating watch for their supporters this season, just as easily producing magic as they make calamitous errors. Their latest mishap came in their last game, whereby Jeonbuk were gifted possession thanks to emphatically wayward dribbling. The Bears' sloppiness is becoming a key factor in ensuring that they cannot garner any palpable consistency, and their defensive blunders will need to be stunted should they wish to come away with the points on Sunday.

Who to Watch

Shin Se-gye

A consistently reliable hand in either Kim Byung-soo's fluid back three, or his four in midfield, Shin Se-gye has been one of the key performers since returning to the side at the start of April. His stability will be vital should his side want to turn their woes into wins, and he is a necessary presence in an otherwise rotatable first eleven.
