In Round 29 of the 2021 Hana 1Q K League 2 season, Daejeon Hana Citizen host Jeonnam Dragons in a potential playoff semifinal preview, FC Anyang look to keep their automatic promotion push on track wen the Violets face Gyeongnam, an An Byong-jun will be looking to further cement his lead at the top K League 2 goal-scoring charts when Busan IPark take on Ansan Greeners.

Match of the Round

Daejeon Hana Citizen (3rd) vs Jeonnam Dragons (4th), Mon. 13th August - 19:30 KST

As the table currently stands, this fixture could be a preview of the K League 2 playoff semifinals. Daejeon Hana Citizen sit third but close behind the Purples sit Jeonnam Dragons, with the two set to go toe-to-toe this Monday night. Heading into the match, Daejeon are on a run of just one defeat in five but only two of those matches have ended in victory. Come Monday, Lee Min-sung's men will be looking for their first win in three after a loss to Bucheon around a fortnight ago and a draw with Busan IPark last weekend. The Dragons are on a similar run of form to Daejeon with one loss in five and two wins. However, Jeon Kyung-jun's men will make the trip to the Hanbat Stadium on the back of a three-match unbeaten run with two draws and a win.

Daejeon have had the mindset that attack is the best form of defence so far this term. The Purples sit top for shots made and per 90 minutes, are second for shots on target and first for shots from inside the box. Jeonnam, meanwhile, have had the meanest defence in the division with just 22 goals conceded and just 0.79 per 90 minutes. Daejeon have had the edge over the last 10 meetings with four wins to Jeonnam's three and three draws. Overall, from 69 K League meetings, Jeonnam have been the victors on 28 occasions, Daejeon 21 with 20 draws.

Team of the Round

FC Anyang (vs. Gyeongnam FC, Sat. 11th Aug. 16:00 KST)

Even with the team's leading goalscorer Jonathan Moya away on international duty, FC Anyang picked up a vital win last time out to keep pace with league leaders Gimcheon Sangmu. Last time out the Violets won 2-0 away to a resurgent Chungnam Asan side, despite the absence of Costa Rican international striker Moya. Jeong Jun-yeon and Mo Jae-hyeon were on the scoresheet for Lee Woo-hyung's men who remain second in the table and just one point behind Gimcheon Sangmu. The Violets have proved themselves to be an exciting and effective counter-attacking team this season, having the second-least amount of possession with 46.1% but having the second-best attack in the division with 38 goals scored. However, from the three previous meetings this term, Anyang have one won to Gyeongnam's two - a 2-1 win on the opening day.

Player of the Round

An Byong-jun (Busan IPark vs. Ansan Greeners, Sun. 12th Aug. 18:30 KST)

For the second season in a row, An Byong-jun looks set to end the campaign as the top scorer in K League 2. Last year An finished on 21 goals for the year for Suwon FC but with 17 already in the red of Busan IPark and still with eight games to go, the 31-year-old looks set to better his tally from 2020. It's of little surprise that An is the division's top scorer, though, as the North Korean international has dispatched the most shots with 84, the most per 90 minutes at 3.2, and is the most accurate with 47 of the 84 finding the target (1.8 per 90 minutes). Despite being known for scoring screamers from distance, most of An's shots have come from inside the area with 53 and 34 from outside. This weekend, An and his Busan IPark teammates take on Ansan Greeners. An scored a hat-trick when the Royals last made the trip to the Wa~ Stadium back in June, including a 90th minute winner following a real ding-dong battle which saw the Green Wolves level not once but twice.

Elsewhere in K League 2 Round 29

Elsewhere in K League 2 over the weekend, Bucheon FC 1995 host Seoul E-Land in something of a six-pointer in the battle to avoid 10th place. Bucheon in ninth are three points above Seoul but have scored two goals fewer. A win by two goals ore more would take the Leopards above the Reds and into ninth.

League leaders Gimcheon Sangmu are also in action with Kim Tae-wan's men at home this Monday night against fifth-place Chungnam Asan. With FC Anyang just a point behind Gimcheon, a win for the army side will be seen as a must in their push for automatic promotion. The Owls, meanwhile, sit nine points outside the playoffs but will at least want to end the campaign as the best of the rest.
