Gyeongin Derby Preview: FC Seoul Vs. Incheon United

league 2021.09.20   I   조회수 1094

The third Gyeongin Derby of the 2021 Hana 1Q K League 1 season sees relegation-threatened FC Seoul host top six-chasing Incheon United. The two teams have both picked up 1-0 victories in this fixture already this season, a repeat of that for either the Seoul or the Blue Black could go a long way in making their respective seasons.

Recent Form

FC Seoul head into Wednesday's Gyeongin Derby on the back of a 2-1 win over Suwon FC. Cho Young-wook opened the scoring with just 54 seconds on the clock before Na Sang-ho made it 2-0 just nine minutes later. It was new manager An Ik-soo's first since taking charge and first for Seoul in eight matches, since the 1-0 victory over Gwangju in early August and enough to move Seoul off the foot of the table. Glass half full and Seoul have picked up four points from six available in their last two matches.

Incheon United, on the other hand, make the trip to the capital having lost last time out. The Durumi lost to the Magpies, Seongnam FC, at home by one goal to nil - Fejsal Mulić with the game's only goal after being introduced in the 53rd minute having had to make do with a place in the bench. Incheon are now on a run of three straight defeats and sit seventh in the table.

Team News

Forward duo Ji Dong-won and Jung Han-min are back in training but missed the visit of Suwon FC. Connor Chapman remains a doubt whole Ko Kwang-min, Hwang Hyun-soo and Kim Jin-ya have all been missing in recent matches and are not expected to be available for Wednesday's Gyeongin Derby.

Incheon United welcomed Stefan Mugoša back to the starting lineup on Saturday having been unavailable since late August due to his involvement with Montenegro's World Cup qualifiers. Kim Kwang-seok is a long term injury absentee while wing-back Kim Jun-yeob is also out with a facial injury.

Head-to-Head

Wednesday's clash will be the third between the two this season. The two previous encounters this season both ended 1-0, first to FC Seoul back in March thanks to a Ki Sung-yueng strike, the second in July when a Stefan Mugoša strike in the 26th minute sealed the win.

The head-to-head record between the two teams over the last 10 matches is dead even with FC Seoul and Incheon United both winning four matches with two draws. Seoul have out-scored their Gyeongin Derby rivals, however, with eight goals to six. Overall, from 54 K League meetings, Seoul have the advantage with 23 wins to Incheon's 14 and 17 draws. The capital club have scored 80 to Incheon's 51.

What to Watch

First goal winner

Incheon have taken the lead in 12 matches this season and have gone on to win eight of those matches, draw two and lose just two. FC Seoul, meanwhile, have taken the lead in ten matches this season and went onto secure victories in five of those games and draws in three with two losses. The last five Gyeongin Derby matches have ended 1-0, three to Incheon and two to FC Seoul. Whichever team scores the first goal this Wednesday then is likely to go on and secure the three points.
