2021 K League 2 Round 35 Preview

league 2021.10.21   I   조회수 1082

This season's K League 2 enters its penultimate round on Saturday and, while a number of positions may have been determined, there are still battles to be fought as Play-off contenders FC Anyang, Daejeon Hana Citizen and Jeonnam Dragons jostle for pole position and the elusive home advantage it brings in the campaigns closing games. Here is the match, team and player to keep an eye out for this weekend in Round 35.

Match of the Round

Daejeon Hana Citizen (3rd) Vs. FC Anyang (2nd) - Saturday, October 23rd - 13:30 KST

The weekend gets underway with a clash between the division's third and second-placed sides as both look to secure the runner-up spot and the single home play-off fixture that comes with it. Daejeon Hana Citizen play host and sit four points behind visitors FC Anyang with two to play. The home side have won their last two outings with results against Chungnam Asan and Ansan Greeners while FC Anyang had to pick up their first win in four in a comeback victory against Seoul E-Land last time out. Furthermore, the three clashes between the pair this season have all been closely contested, with the Purples winning twice while the Violets won the only fixture in Daejeon.

Daejeon will be hoping Masatoshi Ishida will be able to play a key role in breaking Anyang's resolve, with the Japanese attacking midfielder scoring his sixth in his last five games last week in the win against Asan. However, FC Anyang's Jonathan Moya will also pose a significant threat to Daejeon defence as he looks to add to his tally of 13 for the season and seal second-place for his side.

Team of the Round

Jeonnam Dragons

While second and third face-off in the early afternoon, Jeonnam Dragons lie in fourth hoping to capitalise in the evening if Daejeon fail to pick up all three points. However, the Dragons task ahead of them is no easy feat as they face the newly crowned Champions of the division Gimcheon Sangmu at their own coronation in Gimcheon. Jeonnam will have to put a dampener on celebrations if they are to maintain hope of a preferable play-off fixture but the task of overcoming the military side could, at the very least, provide a solid practice run ahead of the crucial end-of-season clashes, not to mention a midweek FA Cup semifinal against Ulsan Hyundai next Wednesday.

Normally, the Dragons would look to their top goalscorer Jonathan Balotelli to prove the difference, but with the striker suspended for this encounter, the goal-scoring mantle will likely fall to Lee Jong-ho who will be looking to build on his goal from last time out and his tally of eight for the season.

Player of the Round

Park Chang-jun

Bucheon FC 1995's Park Chang-jun has perhaps flown under the radar at times to some due to his team's position in the table but the winger has had a career-defining season and sits third in the scoring charts with 13 goals to his name. While he was unable to break Gimcheon Sangmu's resolve last week, the 24-year-old has tormented defences at times this year and has been fouled the second most times in the division as a consequence. Defenders are right to be wary though as, while Park has not taken a notable amount of shots (he ranks 26th with 41), he has the highest accuracy when it comes to getting them on target with an impressive 58% being on frame.

This weekend, Park will be up against a Chungnam Asan side that has not tasted victory in their last seven outings and, with Bucheon also afforded the opportunity to leapfrog them with a win, Park will be hoping to add to his tally and force his way into second in the Golden Boot race.
